Overview:

This vocationally-based qualification provides learners with the opportunity to showcase their knowledge, understanding, and practical skills in various roles within the healthcare support environment. These roles may include Adult Nursing Support, Maternity Support, and Physiotherapy Support.

This qualification is a mandatory requirement for the Apprenticeship Standard for a Senior Healthcare Support Worker (SHCSW).

Purpose of this Qualification:

Developed in response to the government’s policy on reformed apprenticeships, this qualification aligns with the Sector Skills Council – Skills for Health. Extensive consultation with employers, regulators, and service users ensures that the content is suitable for a Senior Healthcare Support Worker (SHCSW).

Who is this for?

This qualification is designed for learners aspiring to work in various Healthcare Support roles or those embarking on the Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship.

Course Contents:

Learners must achieve a minimum of 65 credits, with 45 credits obtained from 15 Mandatory Units and 20 Credit Hours from Optional Units.

2. Cleaning, Decontamination and Waste Management

3. Duty of care in care settings

4. Promote communication in care settings

5. Promote effective handling of information in care settings

6. Promote equality and inclusion in care settings

7. Promote health, safety and wellbeing in care settings

8. Promote personal development in care settings

9. Promote person-centered approaches in care settings

10. Responsibilities of a care worker

11. Safeguarding and protection in care settings

12. Study Skills for Senior Healthcare Support Workers

13. The Principles of Infection Prevention and Control

14. Understand mental health problems

15. Understand mental well-being and mental health promotion

Optional Units:

NOCN Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support offers a variety of Optional Units. Learners must choose units with a total credit value equal to 20.

Entry Requirements:

There are no formal entry requirements for learners undertaking this qualification. If taken as part of the SHCSW Standard, apprentices must have completed Level 2 English and math’s, along with any other requirements stipulated by the Apprenticeship Standard before progressing to the End Point Assessment.

Progression Routes:

Achieving this qualification confirms that the learner possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to:

1. Secure employment in a relevant Healthcare Support Worker role.

2. Progress onto a degree program in an appropriate area.
